Richard has been in practice since 1984, specialising in Commercial and Residential Property, Trust, Environmental, Finance and Maritime Law.
Richard studied law at the University of Otago and set up his first private practice there. In 2000, he moved his practice up to Auckland and has been practising in the Grey Lynn/Ponsonby area now for over 18 years. Richard has a consistently strong following of loyal clients from throughout New Zealand and Overseas.
Richard has a keen interest in Maritime and Environmental Law. He has vast experience in this area which, among other things, stems from his time as a former Director and Board member of Green Peace New Zealand and anti-nuclear campaigner. He is also a keen sailor, skipper and boat owner. Richard participated in the 1996 Olympics as a member of the New Zealand sailing team. His yacht the “Ranui” has sailed on a number of voyages including the annual charters Richard sails on behalf of the Department of Conservation to Raoul Island in the Kermadecs. Other philanthropic activities of Richard’s include the setting up of the New Zealand Children Health & Education Trust which supports Charitable Purposes and Sustainable Poverty Eradication in New Zealand and Vanuatu.
Sebastian specialises in complex property and commercial transactions, subdivisions, trust law, relationship property matters, and estate administration. He also undertakes work in construction law and finance. He is well respected among clients due to his constant desire and frequent ability to achieve the best result.
Sebastian completed a Bachelor of Laws and Arts at the University in Auckland, with a major in Psychology and was admitted to the bar as a Barrister and Solicitor in early 2012. Not long after, he became a director of Richard Allen Law Associates Limited in 2017.
Sebastian enjoys spending time in the Coromandel, surfing, keeping fit and is an associate member of the Te Atatu Memorial RSA and Grey Lynn RSC.
Lucia joined Richard Allen Law in mid 2016 as a Law Clerk and was admitted to the bar as a Barrister and Solicitor later that year. Lucia is adept in dealing with commercial and residential property transactions, subdivisions, PPPR applications, relationship property matters, and trust and estate administration. She has also acted in a number of litigation matters for clients, assisting notable Barristers in their preparation for High Court Proceedings.
Lucia graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Laws and Arts majoring in Spanish (LLB/BA). In her LLB she maintained a focus on international and commercial law while her keen interest in languages lead her to minor in Japanese in her Bachelor of Arts. She attended the University of Salamanca, Spain at the beginning of 2016 where she completed her BA before returning to join Richard Allen Law that same year.
Lucia enjoys reading and keeping up with the latest films, art and music. She loves to cook in her spare time and has recently started knitting.
Tala Grace Skeens
Tala is the newest member of Richard Allen Law and since joining the team has worked on a range of matters including commercial and residential property transactions, helping clients to prepare dispute tribunal claims, applications for probate and matrimonial property and property sharing agreements. Tala has a particular interest in relationship property law and estate planning and administration.
Tala graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts majoring in International Relations and Political Science. Upon returning from an exchange at Uppsala University in Sweden where she undertook a comparative analysis of Scandinavian and New Zealand political and legal systems, Tala joined Richard Allen Law in mid 2017 and was admitted to the High Court that September.
Outside of the office, Tala enjoys keeping active and participating in team sports. Her dragon boating team, The Jaffettes, are the current New Zealand women dragon boating champions.
